Wheeldon Voted Best Day Out!
23 August 2010
Wheeldon Off-Road Centre has been voted as number one in the Daily Star's Top 5 British Days Out. The UKs only indoor off-road facility beat Ron Haslam Race School, Ace Cafe Renunion + Brighton Speed Trials, Highland Tours in Scotland and even British Superbikes at Cadwell Park to the number one slot!
Here's what the Daily Star and The Bike Insurer had to say:
"The ultimate off-road experience, catering for beginners and experts alike. Activities include
everything from MotoX to Enduro and Trials riding. If you want to devlop your off-road and
dirt-biking skills, Wheeldon Farm should be on the shortlist."
Team Wheeldon At GBXC Rnd 2
15 June 2010
Team Wheeldon made an excellent showing at last weekend’s Round 2 of the 2010 GBXC
series that took place at Preston Combe Farm, Devon (13 June).
Led by the experienced Andrew Savery, a number of first-timers rented a few bikes from Wheeldon’s 2010 Suzuki Off-Road range and turned out under the ‘Wheeldon’ banner for their first taste of Hare & Hounds action. Ashley Dulcher, Ben Absolom, Sam Barnett and Joe Claydon cut their teeth admirably around the challenging XC course. Sam, at 13 the youngest of the foursome to race in the XC Youth race, looked decidedly worried upon an inspection of the circuit on the eve of race day. However, Andrew was impressed with his determination and spirit as he coped brilliantly with the conditions to bring his Suzuki safely home in 18th position after completing 5 laps.
The venue was first used in the 2009 GBXC series and proved very popular with riders. The course set out by the Fast Eddy Racing crew was a true XC course with plenty of room to manoeuvre, on the fast and open fields whilst combining a few tough technical sections to test riders to the maximum.
The course ran in the opposite direction to the 2009 event. Additionally, Fast Eddy had given riders options of hard or easy routes at several spots around the course. The ‘hard’ routes gave a significant time saving, providing the route was clear and many brave and not so brave riders gave them a go and surprised themselves, although there were a few spectacular moments from a handful of riders.
Simon Mckenzie (New Zealand) and Ashley Dulcher (South Africa) added a touch of international class to the Wheeldon entries. Simon, a National Vet rider back home in NZ entered into the XC Clubman Class for the afternoon’s event that hit the track alongside the Pro’s. After two laps, Simon was leading his class but suffered a huge crash on lap 3 that forced him out of contention. Fortunately both bike and rider were ok and will live to race another day.
Ashley, part of the Wheeldon quartet to race in the XC Youth class, finished a very respectable 13th in his first Hare & Hounds event.
“Everyone had a great day,” said Andrew, “especially those riders who were racing in their first ever Hare & Hounds event. A special mention must be made to Chris, he was a big character who was so laid back during the race that we even had a pipe, slippers and newspaper ready for him every time he finished a lap! It was a great event and we all had a fantastic time.”
A film crew from the Extreme Channel’s ‘Blood, Sweat and Gears’ programme were on site recording all the action from both the morning and afternoon races. Presenter Paul Minihane was under close scrutiny onboard a Wheeldon 450X Suzuki, on loan from our off-road centre just a few miles away. Keep an eye on Extreme Sports, Sky Channel 419, from 1pm on Saturday for coverage of the event.

Wheeldon Sponsor Day
5 May 2010
Wheeldon held its annual Sponsor Day at Long Compton natural MX/Hare & Hounds track circuit in Warwickshire at the beginning of May. In attendance were members of Suzuki GB, Michelin, DonJoy and Eurosport. This year we decided upon a change of venue, so headed north to Long Compton - a fantastic natural circuit based just down the road from our instructor Pat 'Action' Jackson.
The idea of the day was to have a bit of a play and familiarisation of both the circuit and the Suzuki RMX450Zs during the morning, followed by an Endurance event in the afternoon. At one point it didn't look like we would make it as our truck broke down, leaving us stranded in the early hours, miles short of the venue! Fortunately, Pat leapt to the rescue and managed to get the bikes and us there in the nick of time.
After an open test morning, we gathered for a picnic lunch (thanks to our catering department for making the sandwiches), before splitting into five teams of three for the afternoon's fun activities.
After 1.5 hours and 17 laps of hard riding it was a close shave between three of the teams with Team 1 just sneaking the win. So, well done to Ian Brown (Suzuki GB), Jonathan Martin (Suzuki GB) and Barry Urand (Michelin) - who turned out as well deserved winners.
A big thanks to all who turned out for the day, and for their continued support of Wheeldon.

Wheeldon Hosts Get On Campaign
April 2010
The Get On Campaign elected Wheeldon as the perfect venue to introduce new riders to the thrills of two-wheel action through its new Family Fun initiative. Among those in attendance for the day were members of national and local press outlets and their families including; The One Show's Dominick Littlewood, Daily Telegraph, Evening Standard, Somerset County Gazette, Western Gazette and First News children's newspaper.
Andrew and Jim put the families through their paces on a selection of 2010 Suzuki GB off-road machines, and for many of whom this was their first taste or riding a motorcycle. Needless to say, everyone had a fantastic day and all riders progressed from the junior track to the main arena. And for us at Wheeldon, it was great to be involved with an initiative that promotes new riders to the joys of riding motorcycles.
Look out for more coverage of the event over the coming months.

MVR-D Suzuki Open Day
27 February 2010
Carl Nunn and Mattis Karo of the MVR-D Suzuki British Motocross Team provided a startling
example of their skill on the Wheeldon Off-Road Centre indoor track. Spectators and young hopefuls were on hand to experience the quality of both riders on track and took the opportunity to meet Carl and Mattis between sessions to obtain tips, advice and get a few signatures for the collection! Many of those present took the opportunity to chat with Wheeldon Off-Road Centre staff about the excellent facilities and the superb range of bikes available
to ride.
All in all, an excellent day was had by all with the MVR-D Suzuki British
Motocross Team members getting in some rewarding practice in preparation for
the Little Silver Track event in Devon on the following day.

Wheeldon Hits the News in Australia!
February 2010
Our Junior Training program is proving so successful that we've even hit the news right across the other side of the globe! Kalani Corser's visit to Wheeldon has hit the headlines in Australian weekly motorcycle magazine, Australian Motorcycle News (3 February 2010).
Hopefully the likeable six-year-old will et to see some of the media attention that is
currently being drummed up. At the moment, Kalanai is over in Australia as Troy prepares for the opening round of the 2010 World Superbike Championship that takes place at his home track of Philip Island (26 - 28 February).
However, we're sure it won't be long before both father and son are back down for more
off-road fun at Wheeldon...
Wheeldon in Motorcycle Racer Magazine
February 2010
Check out the latest edition of Motorcycle Racer for the "Son of Troy" feature on Kalani Corser as he learns the MX ropes from Andrew and Jim at Wheeldon.
"For one six year old, the school holidays signalled the end of a boring term and the start of lessons of a more exciting nature, as Kalani Corser embarked on his road to World Champion status, following in the footsteps of his double World Champion father, Troy.
Scooping up a handful of dirt, he let the red Devon soil fall through his fingers. Grading of the track reaching his own exacting standards checked, Kalani returned his attentions to the task at hand; the all important track walk ahead of his first formal taste of motocross tuition. Kalani may not fully understand why he did that but he is already displaying characteristics that will someday soon propel him into the limelight."

Big WIlly's American Dream - The End
February 2010
The final installment of Bill Willy's trip stateside is now online...
"We awoke to beautiful sunshine and headed to Starwest where we were greeted by a nicely
groomed track which rutted up loads so got some good practice in the ruts which it’s like back home. The track flowed really well with some big sweeping berms. I met up with James Cottrell who was looking good on the bike after some injury problems he was putting in some laps trying to get ready for the season. Ross was really getting back his old speed from before he quit to ride BMX some 8 years ago. Kye was really getting accustomed to the 450 Kawasaki
and really looked comfortable on the track. Lee was putting in the laps on the Kawasaki 250f which he loves. I was really enjoying the 450 had fun flowing around track it felt good and was
a lot of fun."
