Tough Weekend for Worden at Lyng

13 July 2009

Will Worden struggled to make his desired impact on the Maxxis British Motocross Championship MX2 class at Norfolk's Lyng circuit last weekend. After taking the accolade of providing the filmed flying lap for both the MXGB website and the Sky Sports TV coverage, Will suffered DNF's in both races. In race 1, Will had moved his Wheeldon Suzuki up to 19th position on track from a start of P30 before being collected by another rider. The subsequent knee injury proved too painful for Will continue and he was forced to withdraw from the opening race.

In the second race, Will was yet again forced to retire, this time from 15th position, after a crash on the ascent to one of the jumps left him with a broken clutch lever and unable to continue.

Will now moves back down south to Canada Heights in Kent for the third round of the Red Bull Pro Nationals this weekend (18 July), before heading to moves on to the sixth round of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship at Foxhill, Wiltshire on 26 July.

Will Worden: "Saturday started off really well for me, I got asked to do the helmet cam lap for Sky Sports and the MXGB website. However, that's where it all started to go wrong. I got taken out in the first race, then broke a clutch lever in race 2. It was really frustrating as Lyng is such a god track and was well on course to scoring some good points."

Wheeldon gives the Red Bull X-Fighters wings!

9 July 2009

Ahead of the grand finale of the Red Bull X-Fighters world tour to be held at Battersea Power Station on 22 August, a press day was called at the Mildenhall Stadium in Suffolk. Wheeldon Off Road Centre instructor Pat ‘Action’ Jackson was on hand with a fleet of Suzukis from the centre to offer training and advice to the attendees, ranging in experience from the complete novice to the more advanced road rider. In attendance were mainstream journalists from Mens Heath, The Mirror, The Star, The Times and Top Gear Magazine to name but a few. Pat started off with basic tuition around a coned circuit to ensure all riders had the grasp of basic motorcycle controls onboard the user-friendly Suzuki DR-Z125, before heading out onto the main motocross circuit to pit their skills against the muddy terrain.

The aim of the day? Ahead of the grand finale, the X-Fighters team will be touring the UK with a series of stunning, edge-of-the-seat freestyle displays and more than just drum up column inches the X-Fighters wanted the media to understand just how difficult throwing around a 140kg motorcycle 50ft up in the air actually is!

Everyone wholly enjoyed the experience, and thanks to Pat’s excellent instruction they all made it safely through the day, and out onto the badlands of the MX track onboard the Suzuki DR-Z400, DR-Z125 and for the more accomplished - the RM-Z250.

The X-Fighter trio of Brit Chris Birch, and Swedes Martin 'Flap' Snellstrom and Frederik 'Frog' Berggren wowed the crowd with a preview of tricks that will form part of the showcasing tour, scheduled to hit Birmingham, Cardiff and Leeds before the main event in London on 22 August.
